This rich land as naturally as culturally speaking, is a great trip in every sense of the term. Those who have already visited Thailand will understand immediately the allusion.
First board, avoid package tours, Thailand is a country where one can travel freely, the Thais are in vast majority of honest people, however, it should be on guard, especially in tourist areas but 99.9999 % of trips to Thailand to spend the better the world.

Everywhere, you can enjoy beautiful walks, visits to temples and you arrange time to rest, however, each region of Thailand reveals a different face and lends itself to discovery and to specific activities. A stay of 20 to 25 days is ideal for visiting the Land of Smiles, start with a formula of one-week tour to explore the capital and northern Thailand and keep for 2 weeks stay in the south or on an island paradise reserved for the sole relaxation.

Discover Our Thailand travel map with all information for your trip, City’s, Island’s, Historic place’s, Region, transport and more…

The main destination for airlines is the capital Bangkok; it is therefore in a first time to book a hotel in Bangkok, the Silom area, Sukhumvit or Siam neighborhoods are best served by the BTS (Sky Train) and Metro. Bangkok, the City of Angels, of course, is an essential cultural capital but the lifestyle of the inhabitants of this metropolis will intrigue you and you may just like them, after a few hours, enjoy the best in this labyrinth whose frenetic escapes through a mythical river, the Chao Phraya. 2 or 3 days to visit are advised to see the Grand Palace, temples, Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Pho, the market Silom, Floating Market, Lumpini Park, Chinatown and many others, including the Chatuchak market open the weekend, but it is better to keep a small niche at the end of your stay in this market, to fill your bags before returning.

North Branch
The Chao Praya River vein the country from north to south by a long alluvial plain where lies the quintessence of its history: the two old historic capitals, Ayutthaya and Sukhothai.
It is also the Mother of Thailand valley with rice fields out of sight. In the foothills of the Tenasserim, we discover beautiful landscapes and villages who live far from the tourist frenzy … 2 to 3 days to Ayuthaya and Sukhothai, train or bus or even by boat up the Chao Phraya River.

Branch Chiang Mai, bus or train the walled city at the heart of the kingdom of a million rice fields, captive to its special atmosphere and its composite population. Apparently little in common between the many students of the university town, and remote peoples of the highest peaks in Thailand to take you for wonderful hikes.
This is the heart of the country crafts beats to the rhythm of talented woodcarvers rivaling all weaving traditions. This cradle of Thai Buddhism has to admire a breathtaking architectural style. This ancient region of forests for lumber welcomes its loyal workers retired or unemployed … elephants. 2-3 days to Chiang Mai.

Then head south. Thai airlines, offering, direct flights from Chiang Mai to Phuket or Koh Samiu
Phuket, Koh Samui Island … How to choose?
Thailand and its islands are a popular destination dreams when winter approaches. Dream beaches, tropical atmosphere, sports, tradition of massage … The South and the islands in the Gulf of Thailand and Indian Ocean are the perfect setting for an unforgettable stay in the sun. Which island to choose? It all depends on your desires travel. Here are some tips to choose your destination in Thailand.

If you love luxury Phuket
Phuket is the most popular islands in Thailand and best equipped in terms of infrastructure. This is the island you need, whether on vacation you swear by the palaces and love to be pampered. Indulge in a 5 star hotel, from € 50 at night and learn about the Thai massage.

You are a great athlete: Koh Samui
The Gulf of Thailand, between Koh Samui and Koh Tao, are conducive to magnificent underwater dives. It is possible to spend his diving certificate for less than 200 €. Try your hand at windsurfing also, at the windsurfing or Thai boxing and spend a day in one of the superb golf clubs on the island.

Looking for the best beach on Ko Phi Phi or Krabi
Do you remember the movie The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio and his magical setting? This range exists; it is next to the island of Ko Phi Phi, Maya Bay between Phuket and Koh Lanta. Luxuriate in this dream, the shade of a palm tree and do not forget your mask and snorkel to admire the seabed just as heavenly.

You want to party in Koh Phangan
The island favorite of backpackers is part of wild celebrations at the famous full moon celebrations. Thousands of travelers around the world find themselves on the beach of Hat Rin, south of the island, at parties that have nothing to envy to the wildest parties of Goa or Ibiza.
There are obviously other beach destinations less distant from the capital as Hua Hin, Pattaya, Kho Chang, but keep these destinations for another stay, I know people who after a first visit to the Land of Smiles may not return for a second, and even more, there are so many things to discover, gastronomy, culture, history, and “Must”, the Thai people.

Use search engines and travel agency available on the website Thebestofthailand. The number of tourists in Thailand, is spread over three seasons, the low season, May and June, a shoulder season from March 15 to April 30, July-October and the peak season from November to March.
They exist in large airline from Europe and the Thai national carrier, Thai Airways International, serves all European capitals. Allow about 11 flight hours for a direct flight. Other airline with flights to stopover (s) serve Thailand such as Lufthansa – Swiss – British Airways – Cathay Pacific – Qatar Airways – Aeroflot – Singapore Airlines – and many other destinations have to the new Bangkok airport www.suvarnabhumiairport.com or directly to Phuket www.phuketairportonline.com

The time difference is GMT + 7 hours, in summer it is 10:00 in Paris (GMT +2) is 15:00 in Bangkok and in winter 16:00. Also note that the Thai year is offset by 543 years by the Western calendar and the year 2012 is the year 2555 in Thailand.
The use of mobile phone or Smartphone is highly developed in Thailand. The entire territory is covered for use GSM and 3G. But the surcharge on calls and internet connections imposed by European operators if you use your SIM card, you will book bad surprise when you return. Use your Smartphone only if you are connected to a WIFI. For your telephone calls, use a SIM card Thailand (AIS, DTAC, True Move) They cost virtually nothing Thai baht 50 (1.20 €) and are rechargeable to suit your communication with prepaid cards that you find in all stores 7/11 – Family Mart and across large areas. If your phone is locked, the easiest way is to buy a phone in Thailand: one finds apart from 500 baht (15 €).
Formality to enter Thailand: Depending on the purpose of the trip, and the nationality of the traveler, the entry into Thailand is subject to no or obtaining a visa.
To stay up to 30 days the authorization is issued free on arrival (plane).
Generally counted among the 10 most interesting dive areas in the world, this little archipelago has also become a favourite destination for yachts and tour boats.
“Similan” is derived from the Malay sembilan, and means “nine”. Each of the Similan Islands has a number as well as a name. These are, running from north to south: Koh Ba Ngu (No. 9), Similan (No. 8), Payu (No. 7), Miang (No. 4, No. 5 and, in some opinion, No. 6), Payan (No. 3), Payang (No. 2), and Hu Yong (No. 1). Hin Pousar, or “Elephant Head Rock”, is alternatively designated No. 6 by some. The Similans aren’t as dramatically scenic as the limestone islands of Krabi or Phang Nga Bay, which many people have come to associate with the Andaman Sea. Instead, you find low-lying formations covered with thick forest.

Ironwood and gum trees are among the larger trees, while jackfruit, rattan and bamboo form part of the denser undergrowth. The islands are home to crab-eating monkeys, dusky langurs, squirrels, bats, lizards and a good variety of birds (though the monkeys are shy and rarely seen by the casual observer).
But the most striking feature of these islands, at first glance, are the huge boulders that litter the western and southern shores on several of the islands. Another highlight, as the visitor soon discovers, are the white coral-sand beaches, splendidly picturesque and often deserted.
The most interesting sights, however, are to be found beneath the waves. Some of the most spectacular coral growths in the world can be found here – and the same boulders that scatter the shores have turned the waters around the Similans into an adventure playground for divers.
Topographical Treats
At various times in the past – with sea levels fluctuating by as much as 150m with the advance and retreat of the polar ice-caps – these islands have been under water, battered by storms, covered with marine growths, visited by creatures long extinct.
Think of that when you clamber up the trail to Sailing Boat Rock, on Island No. 8, for example. As you squeeze through the crevices and archways, imagine them covered with colourful corals, sponges and algae. Where today you find birds and butterflies and squirrels, at one time dense schools, bright streams of fish instead commuted this way and that, with bigger fish and marine dinosaurs cruising through on the hunt.

A variety of forces have given shape to these islands. To begin with, the Similans were intrusions, upwellings of hot magma that found their way through weak spots in the Earth’s crust 100-150 million years ago, working their way through thick layers of sedimentary rock already laid down at least 100 million years earlier still. Then, unimaginably powerful movements in the crust cracked the granite substratum into blocks, preparing the way for experiments in sculptural form by wind and wave.

Today, piles of curious stones, some of them as big as houses, lie as though collected and later abandoned in careless heaps by some ancient race of beachcombing giants. Even Sailing Boat Rock, the distinctive formation teetering high above the cove on Koh Similan (Island No.8), has been shaped in this way.
And boulders just like these spill in jumbled piles down beneath the surface of the sea to 35m and beyond, where submarine peaks, canyons, caves and passageways provide scuba divers with some of the most interesting submarine prospects in the world. (On the west side of the islands, currents have kept the formations clear of sand; on the coral-covered sandy slopes of the east side, the boulders have been largely buried.)
Similan Islands Wonders
Underwater, meanwhile, all sorts of marine creatures have helped establish the reefs and the sandy beaches. When you climb up to Sailing Boat Rock, consider the brilliant white sand below.
This beach is in large part a product of diligent scraping and nibbling away by organisms such as the parrotfish – an average individual of which species may excrete more than 16 kilos of sand in the course of a year’s lunching on hard corals. And there’s plenty here to eat.

The conditions for coral growth are ideal, with a minimum prevailing sea temperature of about 28oC and exceptionally clear waters. More than 200 species of hard coral alone have so far been identified in this area, while these islands have the greatest profusion of reef fish in Thai waters.
In fact, in terms of both marine life and bottom topography, there’s more variety than you’ll find in most other dive destinations around the world. The Similan Islands has almost everything – coral walls (if we count Koh Bon, to the north, as one of the Similans), big rocks, huge sea fans and barrel sponges, caves, swim-throughs, and plenty of shallows for snorkelling as well. For, although the fringing waters around the islands average from 30-45m dropping down to 70-80m between islands, you’ll find coral gardens in as little as six to seven metres.

A Sailor’s Fancy
It’s best known as a diving and snorkelling destination, but the Similans’ scenic moorings are also becoming increasingly popular with the sailing fraternity. Every year more yachts come to cruise the Similans during the northeast monsoon (November-May, with December-February the peak of the high season), drawn by the lovely anchorages, the beaches and forests, the clear waters and teeming marine life.
Bareboat sailing charters and sailing-diving cruises may be booked from Phuket. If you are on a yacht that doesn’t have scuba gear or a compressor, you can always hire what you need from the diveboats that come out from Phuket on a regular basis.
Getting to the Similans
There is no regular boat service for visitors to the island, and during the low season months of May-October boats may stop running altogether depending on the weather conditions. Thap Lamu Pier, in the Thai Muang district of Phang Nga province, is the nearest launching point to the Similans, with boat trips taking about 3 hours.
More adventurous travellers may try to hitch a ride with some of the local boats heading out there – just be sure to allow lots of time since there’s no guarantee that there will be a ride back on any given day. Note that a park entry fee of 200 baht is charged.
Daytrips from Phuket and Khao Lak are also possible, with travel time of 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on the boat used. A popular way to go, especially for divers and game fishers, is by joining a liveaboard boat trip from Phuket, which usually run for 4 days. There are many Phuket-based liveaboard operations offering varying levels of luxury and facilities.

Thailand has one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. For those who have traveled there they know that the beauty of this untouched place makes for some of the best holidays in the world. This is coupled with the large amount of historical culture that abounds the countryside and there is never a shortage of things to do in this country. Because much of this land is affected by the development will realize that relaxation and peaceful life is possible. The scope of the powerful was not done here and that means you receive the best holiday in the countryside, especially when it comes to the beach areas of Thailand.

Khao Lak is a wonderful beach in Thailand. Only a short drive from the airport,
this paradise offers a remote vacation area like no other.
Thanks to the vast area that is uninhabited, there is a lush tropical jungle
near with a wealth of wildlife to be seen. The hot water remains in the month of
November to December and from fishing and diving is of this world.

Phuket Thailand Beach is another great place. Enjoy this resort November through March. There are more than enough to do so. It’s a little more crowded than other beaches because it thrives in the area of tourism dollars it brings in. The scuba diving is first class in this area and also find some of the hottest in the world’s clearest waters. There are several nearby attractions to keep busy for a few days.

Phi Phi Don Thailand beach is quite a return. Once a remote and almost unknown, this Thailand beach came to life when Hollywood came in and filmed a movie here. It is now considered one of the most popular beaches around the country and is frequented by many big names. This is a site that you do not want to miss, as the views are breathtaking and the water warm and inviting.

West Raily Thailand beach is one of the known diamond in the rough. There is little that is expensive and can stay here in the “resort” for over a week and barely tap the budget. The sands are milky white and clear water. Diving is very popular here, as well as fishing. This situation is only accessible by long tail boat so plan for a bit of a long journey.

Pattaya is a popular beach resort on the Gulf of Thailand just 150 km southeast of Bangkok: a mere two hour drive. While Pattaya once had a well deserved reputation for its seedy nightlife, local authorities have, in recent years, improved the quality of the beaches and reinvented the resort, to some degree, as a more family friendly destination. Today, hundreds of thousands of visitors are drawn each year to Pattaya to windsurf, water ski, swim, sunbathe, snorkel, sail, or take trips to nearby islands. Other activities include Bungee jumping, cycling, skydiving, go-Karting, Muay Thai (Thai boxing), and Paintball (to name only a few!)

Golfers, both novice and expert are well catered to as well, with a wide selection of golf courses around Pattaya including the Phoenix, Pattaya Country Club, and the Navy course near Sattahip, which offers 18 holes of golf for around 1,000 baht (around 30 US dollars)!
Another major draw for visitors to Pattaya is the wide selection of restaurants serving some of Thailand’s freshest seafood. Due to the high number of expatriate foreigners in Pattaya there is also an excellent selection of authentic foreign eateries serving French, Italian, Swiss, German, Hungarian, Scandinavian, English, Indian, Moslem, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine. Those on a tight budget and those with money to burn are equally able to find rooms to suit their needs. Even those who are turned off by the widespread development along Pattaya’s main beach can find some peaceful beach time at nearby Jomtien beach, just 3 kilometers south, which is a far quieter alternative.

Just over one hour from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, Pattaya is a lively beach town that draws visitors from around the world. With activities that include a wide array of water sports, golf, shopping, cabaret shows, an elephant village, and a Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum (to name only a very few) it’s impossible not to have an action-packed Pattaya holiday. Unless of course its relaxation you crave, in which case there are thousands of beach chairs and umbrellas lining the Pattaya shore, where wandering vendors will cater to your every need: from barbequed shrimp to a foot massage. Pattaya is certainly a Thai beach resort that meets the needs of any visitor on any budget.

Pattaya Nightlife

As most visitors know, Pattaya is a city offering various kinds of entertainments, but night entertainment is definitely the majority. So, there are also a variety of enjoyments from Pattaya nightlife toward visitors, such as beer bars, night clubs, a go go, and so on. Once visitors are in Pattaya, they will find out that almost everywhere in Pattaya city offers night entertainment. However, the majority of those are at Beach Road and Pattaya Walking Street.

The tropical paradise of Koh Samui is Thailand’s third largest Island and is situated just a short ferry trip away from the mainland near Surat Thani.

Koh Samui has been settled for about 1500 years. The first inhabitants here were fishermen. The island is found on 500 years old maps from Chinese Ming dynasty. A Fishing and coconut plantation has been the major source of income on the island. Today, tourism is the main income for the inhabitants of the island. The people here are called “Chao Samui”.

Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand (bordering the South China Sea in the Pacific Ocean). The island is a “Amphoe” or district in the Surat Thani Changwat or province. Samui is divided into seven “Tambon” or sub districts (administrative regions): Maenam, Bophut, Maret, Taling Ngam, Namuang, Lipa Noi and Angthong. Koh Samui has been a backpackers destination since late 70′s. Today, tourists from the whole world go to this easygoing “paradise”. It is surrounded by more than sixty other islands, some small and inhabited, some are larger such as Kho Phangan and Koh Tao (divers island). Other popular destinations in the area are: Koh Nang Yuan (next to Koh Tao) and the Angthong National Marine Park (located between Koh Samui and the Suratthani mainland).

There are many daily flights from the International and domestic Airport in Bangkok; Suvarnabhumi Airport (opened in September 2006). Bangkok Air flies direct to Samui Airport. Also Thai Airways has two daily flights to Samui Airport (since February 2008).

Thai Airways and Air Asia also fly to Suratthani. From there, just catch the bus or taxi to the ferry in Donsak. On Samui you’ll find a few nightclubs and discotheques if you like that kind of entertainment. We can recommend; Green Mango (on Soi Green Mango next to Chaweng Bach Road), Reggae Pub (on Chaweng beach) and Bauhaus, Super Sub (on Lamai beach) There are also smaller pubs and bars all over the island. Enjoy! So called girlie bars are rather common and often a little more expensive. If you are a man, do not be too surprised if one of the girls wants to follow you to your room. Normally she is not too serious if she says that she is in love with you though. She is doing it as a work to support herself and often also her family.

Chaweng
A 7 km long beach in the North-East of Samui. The most well-known and developed, but also one of the best. You can rent anything from a simple bungalow to a five star hotel room here. There are plenty of high standard resorts here. The sand is invitingly white, but it can be a lot of people here, especially at high season.

Lamai
Not far as long as Chaweng but more quite and some people would say charming. The Southern part of the beach is somehow more inviting than the Northern, because there are not so much stones and corals there. Lamai is located in South-East of Samui, about 10 kilometers South of Chaweng. A little North of Lamai you will find Ao Tong Takian beach. It has become rather popular, and a few resorts are located there.

Diving
Koh Samui, Koh Tan and Koh Tao has many excellent diving sites. There are many schools who provide professional education. Snorkeling and wave diving is also fun. You can buy equipment in many diving shops on Koh Samui and Koh Tao.

Koh Samui is not a place where you will find the “most famous” Buddhist wats (temples) or statues etc. I would suggest cities such as Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Chaing Mai, Sukhothai or Ayutthaya. And if you are looking for really big hotels and a busy nightlife, I would recommenced Patong beach in Phuket or maybe Pattaya. But Koh Samui is perfect if you want a place without really big hotels, resorts and discotheques or clubs, but where you still can find great beaches, places to eat, bars and even a couple of nightclubs.

Most people who has visit Koh Samui chooses to go back and some returns again and again…

The market itself is not flooded. Central Plaza Lad Phrao, which is also in the Chatuchak District, has reopened.

Areas still flooded in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area include suburbs in the east and west, the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, and districts in the northern part of the city.

Inter-provincial buses from Bangkok to southern provinces are leaving from a temporary station at the car park of the Holland Beer House on Rama II Road in the southwest part of Bangkok.

Train services to north and northeastern Thailand are operating as per normal from Hua Lamphong Station, with some delays due to rerouting. Train services to the southern provinces are operating mainly from Nakhon Pathom due to flooding in Bangkok’s western suburbs. The SRT is providing shuttle bus services between Hua Lamphong Station and Nakhon Pathom.
